Why are there so many different fillers on the market? How do I know which one is right for me?

Most likely you’ve heard of Juvederm and Restylane, but did you know there are multiple varieties of each—and they’re all very different? Belotero is another lovely, but perhaps less well-known filler. Additionally, there are the biostimulant fillers: Radiesse, Sculptra, Bellafill. (Let’s leave those biostimulants to another blog. They are, for the most part, entirely different than the hyaluronic acid fillers we will discuss today.) Each filler falls somewhere on the graph of firmness (called G’ in the biz) versus flexibility. Belotero has some of the lowest firmness of all the fillers. It has been likened to honey on toast, filling in the crevices. It can be used to fill fine lines and will make you look more fresh and youthful, but no one will know why! Then, there are other fillers that are very firm, like Restylane Lyft or Juvederm Voluma, which are great for lifting the cheeks. We desire a more a flexible filler in areas that move (think: around the mouth). And we want a softer, less firm filler in the lips. Factors such as lip volume versus lip definition may also play role in which filler we choose. Different fillers are FDA-approved to last different lengths of time (6-24 months). Ultimately, you should not have to be deciding which filler is best for you. Let us know your goals and we can figure out the best plan to suit your needs!

One last note: all hyaluronic acid fillers are fully reversible. So, worst case scenario, if you (somehow and shockingly) hate it, we can just dissolve it and you don’t need to wait for it to go away on its own! Talk about a dream beauty enhancement!
